Beauty for Both Sexes
Beauty; the crown jewel of material existence. The world is, was, and probably will always be obsessed with outer beauty. What is considered beautiful has changed through the ages, but some golden standard has always been there, and people have gone to extraordinary lengths to achieve it. Just a few centuries ago, beauty was reserved more for men. Going all the way back to the Greeks, physical perfection was the man’s domain- not the woman’s. Were they taking their cues from nature? Take the peacock as an example; the male peacock is the one adorned with colorful feathers. And many other species have that same scenario. Did you know that when lace was first invented, not only was it reserved for royalty, but for men only? You might laugh at that today, but men used to be the “fancier” sex not that long ago. Then times changed again. The powdered wigs and frilly garments were replaced with a more military-driven utilitarian look. Men stopped caring as much about being beautiful, and left that to the women. They became the brutish, plain sex again.
Today, we are seeing yet another change. In the last decade, men have again started to really care about their looks. They now pluck, wax, use products, get manicures, “man-scape”…the whole nine yards. The gender lines are getting fuzzier (while the bodies less and less fuzzier) by the minute. It is not shocking today for men to wear fragrance, have a skin care regime, or use products or dye their hair. Thousands of products now cater specifically to men, from hair plugs to aftershave. Beauty has been wrangled back from the hands of the ladies to be distributed more equally among the sexes.
Until I sat down to write this blog, I had no idea Avon carried men’s products. Back when I was a little girl, my mother sold Avon in her spare time. I remember leafing through the catalogs, and everything was female-dominated. I was surprised to find that Avon has stayed ahead of the trends, and offers a pretty sexy line of men’s products. Why do I mention this? Because Father’s Day is rolling around, and Dad’s can sometimes be really hard to shop for. If I’m not shelling out for a new fishing pole (and believe me, I’m not!) it can be hard to gift a man.
Avon now has skincare, fragrances, grooming items, gadgets, apparel, jewelry and other gifts, all for men. Shop items from Patrick Dempsey and Derek Jeter’s lines, to make your husband or father feel special. Because beauty shouldn’t just belong to women. And of course, Avon carries all of the favorites for women they have always have, if you happen to know a gorgeous graduate. So Father’s Day or graduation…Avon has you covered. Beauty for both sexes…what a wonderful time we live in!
