Green Thumbin’ It
Gardening has always been a favorite hobby for my parents. They are Master Gardeners, after all. They still spend hours every week outside, cultivating a beautiful backyard full of flowers, a pond, and a menagerie of birds swooping in to enjoy little morsels from one of many bird feeders.
I, on the other hand, have the opposite of a green thumb. It was a running joke growing up in our household that I’m domestically challenged. It’s not quite as bad as before—at least now I can cook—but I can officially add horticulturally challenged to that list as well.
I bought a pot of tulips the other day and promptly killed them. Don’t ask me what happened; I watered them just as instructed. I must not have the touch needed to be a quality gardener. And that’s okay, I guess.
Last Minute Shopping for Mom
Last minute shopping doesn’t have to be daunting. If you’ve been following our blogs here at WantACode then you know that Mother’s Day is on our brain. Retailers are thinking along the same lines and coming out with some great deals for mom. If you haven’t found anything for her yet, maybe Haband and Macy’s will do the trick.
Haband has a full line of clothing and accessories for both men and women, however with May 9th coming around the corner, it’s time to turn the spotlight on the number one lady in everyone’s life. Haband’s Deal of the Day is a promising place to browse for deals, and their clearance savings of up to 80% are nothing to shake a stick at, either. What caught my eye for my mom though was the Crinkle Nylon Jacket, discounted from $39.99 to $12.99. Add
Chocoholics Anonymous
If there’s one thing my mother can’t live without, it’s sweets. Chocolate, to be specific. I’m a big fan myself, but my enthusiasm for decadent treats pales in comparison to Mom’s.
And she isn’t alone. Most people respond so well to chocolate because it triggers the production of opioids in the brain (and yes, that’s directly related to the word Opium. Same idea). For chocolate lovers—lovingly dubbed here as “chocoholics”—the idea that chocolate enhances one’s state of well-being comes as no surprise. Indeed it’s probably what has us hooked in the first place. For this reason I’ve learned not to get between my mom and a piece of chocolate cake.
I poked around the internet, brushing up on my chocolate history and couldn’t resist sharing some fun facts. I have to admit,
Local Flavor for Traveling Foodies
The latest craze in travel is not backpacking through Europe, or trekking through the wildlife of Costa Rica… it’s gustatory and gastronomic experiences. In other words, food vacations!
